SKI TOUR EXPECTATIONS

Your Tour Leaders will ...

  • Be available before your tour begins

What can I expect ? What do I pack ? What else can I do there ? You have a consulting service available to you before you leave … get in touch if you need anything or want to chat about your upcoming ski adventure.

  • Manage your arrival in Canada

We will ensure that your ski holiday starts off well organised and fun … and stays that way.

If you are joining us at the start of the tour, we will meet you at Vancouver airport. Your first night in Canada will be at an airport hotel from where we will leave for the mountains by coach early the next morning.

If you are joining us at one of the resorts, we will meet you on your arrival at the resort.

  • Manage bus and shuttle transfer arrangements

Stops will be scheduled on transfers between resorts. Please understand that long stops with sit down facilities for coffee or lunch are not always available for all stops.

We will manage the loading and unloading of luggage on the transfer buses. Gratuities for porterage (i.e. tips for the resort hotel luggage handlers) have been paid for you. Once the tour begins, you will pretty much just have to pack and unpack until it’s time to go home again.

  • Help you with any issues or concerns that you may have while away

We encourage you to speak to us whenever you have a concern because they may very well be able to fix things for you. This help extends from issues with accommodation, where to eat or even questions to do with Internet access or making phone calls home. Please understand that changes to accommodation or other booked arrangements may not be possible at the last minute.

  • Manage the tour’s daily activities

We will show you around the resorts … whether it be bars, restaurants or shops. Want some souvenirs or new ski gear ? We can advise on where to go, when to go there, what to buy, what else to do and most other things that you may be wondering about.

The tour’s day starts with the Daily Blurb. This is an email that will be sent to you each morning and will be a brief summary of the day’s activities. The Daily Blurb will let you know which Tour Leader will be leading which ski group, when and where we will be aiming to stop for morning tea and lunch and where we'll be for our après ski meeting. Any other important information, like any particular dinner or other activity arrangements, will also be detailed.

  • Manage the daily guided ski groups

We will try, as much as possible, to balance both the numbers and the average skiing abilities in each ski group. Because there may be quite a range of skiing abilities, you may be skiing with a variety of standards and styles. We will always be trying to achieve a balance between the ski groups that will best maximise everyone’s skiing enjoyment and to keep the group numbers as low as possible. It is probable that we will recommend movement between the groups to best achieve this balance. It should be noted that there is no obligation to always ski with a guided group if you would prefer not to do so.

  • Co-ordinate après ski get togethers

There will be an informal meeting most afternoons at around 5 o’clock to catch up after the day’s skiing and to confirm arrangements for the evening’s activities or dinner. These meetings are often in a convenient bar or restaurant but may be in the Tour Leaders room or other venue. We will also arrange informal social activities like wine and cheese nights, pizza nights, restaurant dinners and so on.

Please note that facilities large enough to easily seat a very large group all together are not always available. We are there to ensure that the most convenient and available venues are used and that everyone is looked after and that no one is left out.

  • Not provide ski instruction

We are not qualified Ski Instructors and, therefore, will not provide formal ski instruction. However, we may offer simple, casual ski tips to help out if you are struggling. It is possible that we may recommend that weaker skiers consider taking a formal lesson.

We cannot provide individual ski guiding. While we will attempt, as much as possible, to provide a ski group for every tour member to ski with, there may be occasions when someone may not, or wish not to, fit in with the skiing that any of the groups are currently doing. A Tour Leader will not necessarily be available to be assigned to look after only one or two people. You should seek our advice on how to proceed in this case.

We will not lead you onto runs that they don’t think that you can competently handle. We will encourage and help you as much as possible to fully enjoy your skiing wherever you want to go, but, as a minimum, we will not lead you to double black runs, into trees, off piste or into unpatrolled areas. Also, you will not have to follow any group into areas that you cannot handle or with which you are not comfortable.

The things that we will expect from you ...

  • The group

You will let the Tour Leaders know of any health management issues that you may have or if you have any concerns that impact on your satisfaction or that of the group.

  • The skiing

You are at a level of skiing ability where you are able to enjoyably ski easy blue runs as a minimum and can easily manage your own ski gear around the resorts. Since not all skiing requests may be continuously possible when there is a wide range of skiing abilities and styles, we ask that you be patient and flexible when skiing with a guided group, and let your ski group leader know when you intend leaving the group during the day.

It’s important that you are willing to listen to the skiing advice of the Tour Leaders. We are experienced skiers who are quite familiar with the mountains that we are visiting. This skiing advice may include how everyone in a guided ski group will be expected to interact with the other group members while skiing, where to ski and where not to ski as well as details of particular local characteristics of the resorts’ ski areas that you may not be familiar with but need to know in order to stay safe and happy.
